Military Road lane changes from 16 June
The Warringah Freeway is being simplified to make it safer and easier to use, and more efficient and reliable for the benefit of all customers, including active transport and public transport users.
As part of these works, a new dedicated citybound bus on ramp from Falcon Street, Neutral Bay to the Sydney CBD will be built. The future bus on ramp will be a separated, raised bridge structure. It will remove buses from the citybound freeway lanes, improving travel times to the CBD and improving safety for our customers by reducing the need for buses to weave across general traffic lanes.
From Friday 16 June, the Military Road citybound bus lane will temporarily close on approach to the Warringah Freeway for up to 18 months, while work to build the new dedicated bus on ramp takes place. Traffic travelling along Military Road and turning from Falcon Street onto the Warringah Freeway will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes, with buses and general traffic merging.
If you’re driving or catching a bus towards the city along Military Road, consider travelling before 7.15am or after 8.45am on weekdays for a smoother commute. Mondays and Fridays are less busy days on the transport network.
If you walk or cycle along Falcon Street, please note the shared user path on the southbound side of Falcon Street between the Falcon Street northbound off-ramp and Merlin Street will be temporarily closed for up to 18 months. Pedestrians and cyclists will be required to detour an additional 700 metres.
If you’re driving citybound along Military Road, please stay alert and follow signs. You may also consider switching to public transport for a smoother trip.
