In New South Wales, there are public transport options throughout the night and early morning. You can use the Trip Planner or a transport app to plan your late night travel.
Regional train and coach services - overnight travel
Some NSW TrainLink Regional Trains travel overnight on long distance services in NSW and interstate. You can upgrade to a First Class Sleeper on certain services.
Sydney
- A number of bus routes operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- NightRide buses replace most train services between midnight and 4.30am, stopping at railways stations or on main roads near railway stations.
- Some regular bus routes run later services after midnight on weekends only.
- Some Intercity train services run after midnight.
- The last service on some ferry routes depart between midnight and 1am.

From midnight to 4.30am, most trains stop running. NightRide buses replace Sydney train services between midnight and 4:30am, stopping near stations along the train line.
Some Intercity train services run after midnight
Many NightRide services leave the city from bus stops near Town Hall Station.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line light rail services run frequently between Central Station (Central Grand Concourse) and Dulwich Hill via Darling Harbour and the Inner West, Monday to Sunday (including Public Holiday), from 6am to 11pm (midnight on Friday).
L2 Randwick Line and L3 Kingsford Line light rail services run frequently between Circular Quay and Randwick or Juniors Kingsford via the CBD and Central Station (Central Chalmers Street) Monday to Sunday (including Public Holiday) from 5am to 1am.

Newcastle
All late night services in the Opal network accept Opal cards and most are wheelchair accessible.
Extra late night buses run on weekends with services around local hot spots.
The NightOwl buses run after midnight and throughout the early hours of the morning in Newcastle on weekends.
