Bikes on Buses trial in Queanbeyan and Yass
Bikes on Buses trial in Queanbeyan and Yass
Bikes on Buses in the Bush was trialled in Queanbeyan and Yass from 6 December 2021 to 31 March 2022, allowing users to combine a bike ride with a bus trip.
Transport for NSW would like to thank all who participated in the trial. From 1 April 2022, the bike racks will be removed from the buses involved.
We are considering all feedback received and usage numbers to determine the next steps. This may involve a wider rollout of the service on a permanent basis across key centres in regional NSW.
The trial saw bike racks, designed to take two bikes, fitted to buses on QCity route 830, travelling between Queanbeyan and Canberra, and Transborder Express routes 842 and 843, between Yass and Canberra. The whole community was invited to participate in the trial share feedback through a survey and registered trial participants were asked to log their experiences through an e-journal.
The trial expanded travel options for the community and improved access and connectivity between different modes of transport at no extra cost.
Beyond the health benefits of active travel, the integration of bike riding with buses increases convenience, reduces congestion and reduces greenhouse emissions. Initial research suggests the scheme may appeal to customers not currently using public transport in Queanbeyan and Yass.
This trial was an innovation project funded under Pitch to the Panel, which is Transport for NSW’s intrepreneurship program, for staff-led ideas.
